Dravya guna ia a integral part of ayurveda, which deals comprehensively about rasa, guna, virya, vipaka and prabhava (Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics) of herbs. Branch also deals with identification, collection, storage and preservation of raw materials of plant origin and this Department deals with medicinal plants of Ayurvedic classics, their identification, properties, action and therapeutic uses in accordance with fundamental principles of Ayurveda. The subject also includes standardization of medicinal plants. Amongst all the available sources of drugs are proved to be safest. The departmental herbal garden houses around 260 species of medicinal plants. The department holds a huge collection of herbarium sheets of medicinal plants belonging to different families. The department museum has around 250 raw drugs and 50 fresh specimens, so as to familiarize the scholars with authentic sources of medicinal plants and rule out the adulterants available in the market.
